My girlfriend is going to USF next week, and so we’ve been working on getting her cat to move into my house, since my family will be around with her more on weekdays. The last couple of weeks we’ve brought her over a couple of times, to get her used to my cat and the house, and today’s visit turned out…interestingly. Lets just say that it was less than completely pleasant.

Like a Cat to Water
Thursday, August 20th, 2009Assorted Happenings
Tuesday, August 18th, 2009All sorts of fun things happening lately. Today I went and hung out with my friend John, while he was trying out the RED One camera for his next film…and it was a beast. I made some behind-the-scenes sorts of photos of the production folks testing it out, and of course ogled the thing plenty myself. Lately I’ve also gotten the chance to shoot some video, and found that laser tag can be thoroughly amusing.
Good Samaritans
Monday, August 3rd, 2009Today my church participated in an event for migrant workers and their children at the Good Samaritan Mission out in Wimauma. They had food and some variety of medical care (looked like vaccinations, I think) for the parents, and school supplies, popcorn, cotton candy, and all sorts of festivities for the children. There was face-painting, hair-cutting, magic shows, balloon animals, and all manner of fun. I think they even tried to have a soccer game, but the sun was brutal, and that didn’t last for very long.
Photographs, Photographs, Everywhere
Saturday, August 1st, 2009So this is definitely going to be the weekend of photographs. Thursday, my sister needed a portrait to print to go try out for modelling. So I set up some lights under the carport, metered, and shot away. I ended up with a shot I was happy with, and went off to print it. Last time I went for a print, I found out that the Wolf Camera I usually use for quick prints (on Manatee Ave.) had closed, and had to drive out to the one on US 41 to get prints made. This time I went out to the US 41 store to find that it, too, has closed its doors. Apparently, charging obscene markup in an economic downturn isn’t a viable business plan. Go figure.
Back Home!
Sunday, July 19th, 2009I’ve been back in Bradenton for a half a week now, and it’s been great to be back. The jet lag was pretty annoying at first, but I’m finally getting used to my usual home schedule again (albeit with slightly earlier mornings) and getting back to the usual home life. Today I got back to church, and took a couple shots of the video switching setup with some quick lighting.
The Joys Of Geotagging
Sunday, July 12th, 2009Not a whole lot happened today: it turned into a day off of sorts. I spent a little while geotagging on Flickr, which I’ve found to be wonderfully amusing. You just drag photos from a strip onto a map of the world, and it marks their locations. Then you can see all your photos on a map, and other peoples’ photos from the same areas. Admittedly, it’s going to take a while to go back and find where I made all two hundred photos in my library, but it should be awfully amusing to look at the map afterwards.
Tidal Bore-ing
Tuesday, July 7th, 2009Once again, a day of travel without a photograph to show for it. Today’s entry should be especially short, because especially little happened. We woke up and got ready to leave in the morning, but before we left town we went out to see Truro’s great natural wonder: the tidal bore.
To Canadia Again
Monday, June 29th, 2009The Canadia Blog started with a trip to Canada (hence the name) last year, and now it’s time for another. Once again, the Canadia blog gets to live up to its name. I left today with my grandparents, and this time I’m driving up to Newfoundland. We drove up to South Carolina today, with New York coming tomorrow. Unfortunately, there’s not much to talk about now, other than a long day full of driving. On the bright side, I found a DC inverter to run my laptop off the vehicle’s power, so I was able to get an awful lot of work done on my new project, FlexGallery.
The Vinopal Wedding
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009I shot my cousin Jessyca’s wedding last Saturday, and had a grand old time doing it. Weddings are always a fun affair, and coming out with potentially embarrassing photographs of family members just makes it all the more amusing. I got to shoot the wedding with a new 5D Mark II and a 24-70mm f/2.8L to play with. I put the 24-70 on the 5D, which got me some amazing wide shots, and then put a 70-200 on my 20D for longer range stuff. All said and done, both the event and the photos turned out great. (more…)
Of Cats and Leashes
Sunday, June 14th, 2009Today’s lesson: cats don’t like leashes. Or at least that’s what I’ve found trying to leash-train mine. When we moved to a new house, I was a little worried about Boo (an occasionally outdoor cat) wandering off and getting lost in the new neighborhood. So I decided to leash train him. Unfortunately, Boo didn’t take too well to my idea.
