Beach Baptisms, and Other Assorted Fun

Horse Shoes

Some horse shoes from the beach baptism

Today I shot some baptisms at the beach, and assorted activities beforehand.  I started the day running video at church, as usual, and ended up volunteering to show up and shoot the event at Coquina Beach later.  So I bought a new book (David Weber’s By Heresies Distressed), lazed around reading for a while, and headed out to the beach.  I had fun shooting some volleyball, horse shoes and so on, and eventually got to battle it out with the sun shooting baptisms in the water with the sun about ten degrees up off the horizon directly behind them.  I had someone out in the water holding a strobe, but it was still nigh-well impossible to get a decent exposure.  I was able to get them looking alright with a little post-processing, but with the strobe at full power I only got one shot each (it takes a good two and a half to three seconds to recharge after a full-power flash), and some of the expressions turned out…interestingly.

All in all, the weekend was pretty awesome.  Friday I got to come home early, thanks to a cancelled Physics lecture, so I went and had some fries and peanuts at Five Guys with Danielle, and then we ended up watching I Know What You Did Last Summer and heading off to karaoke.  Horror movies, of course, are going to be the norm for October.

Saturday my friend Farrah came back into town from Daytona for a little while, so we all went out and had ice cream at the ever-wonderful Joe’s Eats and Sweets.  Then Danielle and I watched Nightmare on Elm Street (remember the horror movie theme?) with some popcorn and Halloween Oreos.  Then I slept up for church the next morning, beginning the chain of events that would lead to my epic battle against the sun today.

Also, we took the Danie’s cat for a walk on my cat leash.  Needless to say, she didn’t take kindly to the idea, and the only thing she wanted to do once we got her outside was head straight back for the door.  So much for freedom, eh?
