John behind the RED One

All sorts of fun things happening lately.  Today I went and hung out with my friend John, while he was trying out the RED One camera for his next film…and it was a beast.  I made some behind-the-scenes sorts of photos of the production folks testing it out, and of course ogled the thing plenty myself.  Lately I’ve also gotten the chance to shoot some video, and found that laser tag can be thoroughly amusing.

Yesterday Rising 115, a local worship band, played the Olympia Theater in Palmetto, and I went to run video with some folks from Studio 26.  We spent hours setting up a live-switch rig for the outdoor stage, running cables and setting up cameras and such, only to have the rain come along and move the show inside.  Instead of doing a live-switch, we ended up having to just record to tape on each camera.  It was certainly liberating, not having to carry a cable around with me, but I’m sure the eight hours of tape we recorded are going to be no fun to edit together.

The day before that, I went to try out QZar laser tag in Tampa with some friends.  It’s kind of a silly game, but definitely a fun one, and we had a generally great time playing for a couple of hours.  After that we hit up the Whole Foods nearby, and tried out their hot bar for lunch.  It was interesting, although definitely lacking in vegan food, especially considering what one would expect from a Whole Foods.  And of course, black beans and rice isn’t exactly the ideal food to pay for by the pound.
